Eva Wahlström, the current WBC World female super-featherweight champion, will defend her belt this Saturday on May 6 when she takes on Mayra Alejandra Gomez. In boxing, the super-featherweight division is contested at 130-pounds.
Wahlström (19-0-1) has yet to taste defeat in her professional boxing career. She has one draw on her record from back in May 2011 to Milena Koleva. She won the WBC World super-featherweight title back in April 2015, taking out Natalia Vanesa del Valle Aguirre. She has since gone on to win five in a row and plans to make it six by taking out Gomez on Saturday. Three of her victories come by way of knockouts.
The 36-year-old fights out of Finland and begun boxing at the age of 15. She had a very successful amateur career winning ten consecutive gold medals at the Finnish national championships (1999–2008), gold four times at the Nordic Championships (2003–05, 2007) and silver twice at the European Championships (2004 and 2005). She believes she is the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Her opponent for next Saturday is 29-year-old Mayra Alejandra Gomez (18-5-0), from Argentina. Gomez has won five of her last seven. She will be looking to win her first world title and become the first woman to defeat Eva Wahlström.
Eva Wahlström defends her WBC World female super-featherweight belt on Saturday May 6th at Gatorade Fight Night. The event takes place from the Gatorade Center in Turku, Finland. The event is expected to be streamed live online, more details will be available soon.
