BOXING: Geovana Peres to defend WBO light heavyweight title on April 4 vs. undefeated Savannah Marshall who owns amateur win over Claressa Shields

Geovana Peres will attemp to defend the WBO light heavyweight world title on April 4 when she takes on undefeated Savannah Marshall in Newcastle, England.

The women will battle in the co-headling bout of the Ritson vs. Vazques event, airing live on DAZN in the USA and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Peres is the reigning WBO light heavyweight world champion.

Peres has a 8-1-0, 1 KO record in professional boxing. The 43-year-old is a Brazilian born New Zealand professional boxer. She made history in March 2019 by defeating Lani Daniels to become the first ever WBO female light heavyweight world champ. She went on to successfully defend the belt this past October, picking up a sensational TKO win over Claire Hafner.

Undefeated Savannah Marshall is the only woman to have ever beaten Claressa Shields in boxing competition.

Marshall boasts an 8-0-0, 6 KOs record since turning pro in 2017. Prior to her professional debut, the 28-year-old received a lot of hype due to her success on the amateur scene. In 2012, Marshall made history by becoming the first British female amateur world champion by securing gold at the AIBA women’s world boxing championships. The 28-year-old owns a notable amateur win over Claressa Shields. To date, Marshall is the only woman to have beaten Shields in boxing competition.
