BOXING: Claressa Shields issues huge £10 million challenge to Laila Ali

A super-fight between boxing superstars of two different generations could be about to get underway.

Shields isn’t taking too kindly to comments made by Laila Ali.

Claressa Shields hasn’t taken too kindly to comments made by Laila Ali earlier this week, and has issued a direct challenge to the pioneer in a statement on social media.

Laila Ali, daughter of the late great Muhammad Ali, is a former multiple-time world boxing champion, at both light heavyweight and super middleweight. The 42-year-old competed in the sport from 1999, all the way up until her retirement in 2007, finishing with an incredible 24-0-0 record.

During a recent interview on an episode of Sway In The Morning, Ali had this to say about Shields.

First of all, she could never beat me. Let me get that really straight right now. Not simply because she’s not strong enough, because I would definitely knock her out, because she’s not talented enough. You’re talented, You can box. You can throw those hard punches. But there’s a sweet science to boxing. The reason you have not been able to knock out the opponents that you have faced, I can totally see it” Ali said of Shields.

Laila Ali retired from professional boxing undefeated in 2007.

Ali went on to say that whilst she knows she can beat Shields, she’d have to be payed at least $5 or $10 million to even think about coming out of retirement.

Shields isn’t taking too kindly to Ali’s comments and has taken to her Instagram page to issue a huge challenge.

Yes I’ve heard Laila Ali loud and clear and my response is, if someone puts up the 15 Million (5 for the loser & 10 Million for the winner) I will give her a 6 months to year make a fight with me at 168 pounds because she said she is around 200 right now. I don’t take threats lightly. She says she can knock me out and I say “I’ll leave the fight untouched and undefeated!” Let’s make it happen ! I’m the GWOAT AND NOT SCARED OF A SOUL!” Shields wrote.

There is no doubt about it, Shields is the GOAT in professional boxing right now. The 24-year-old has held multiple world championships in three weight classes and currently holds the record for becoming a two and three-weight world champion in the fewest professional fights.
