Bethe Correia recovering from second eye surgery, hoping for mid-2018 return

Controversial Brazilian bantamweight striker Bethe Correia’s recovery from an eye injury has been further delayed.

Correia injured her eye while training for a fight with Irene Aldana in January, and had to be pulled from the fight. Initially, she was planning to return to the Octagon in March, but her injury required a second surgery. Correia explains, “I had a healing problem and had to do a second surgery to fix it,” I was using eye drops but they weren’t working, so I had to do another surgery by the end of February. Nothing serious, but I had to do it.”

She is now hoping to fight again around June or July.

Correia was the victim of two sensational knockouts in the UFC – one by Ronda Rousey in a Bantamweight title match, and a third-round head kick KO loss to Holly Holm, the latter being her last octagon appearance in June. In between the Rousey and Holm fights; Correia dropped a split decision to Raquel Pennington, fought to a majority draw with Marion Reneau, and picked up a split decision against Jessica Eye.
