Tonight, at Bellator 201 in Temecula, Calif., flyweight contenders Valerie Letourneau and Kristina Williams went to war in the Bellator cage in a bout that likely determined the next flyweight title challenger. RECAP: A touch of gloves and we are underway! Both fighters trying to find the distance. Williams catches a kick from Letourneau and drops her on her back. Back to the feet. Midway through the round, Valerie cracks Kristina with a right hand! She jumps in her guard and works some ground and pound. Williams is active off her back but Letourneau is showing strong defense. Nice work from Val in the first round but good recovery from Williams. Second round, Williams is coming on more aggressive. Both fighters planting their feet and throwing haymakers. Both girls are doing a good job of ending their combinations with kicks. Towards the end of the round, Williams lands a nice elbow and clips Val with a right hand. Third round underway and the fight is likely one round a piece! An absolute slugfest to start the round– both fighters biting down on their mouthpieces and throwing bombs. Valerie adjusts and goes for a trip takedown and gets it. She works from top position until the ref stands them up. In the last thirty seconds of the fight, Valerie gets a single leg and takes Kristina to the ground! Williams looks for a submission but time is up! What a fight!
