#Bellator201 results: Keri Melendez improves to 2-0 with spectacular finish

Originally scheduled to take place on the Prelims, a strawweight showdown between Keri Melendez and Tiani Valle was moved to the Postlims.

RECAP: In both of the earlier two women’s bouts of the evening the action has been fast paced and aggressive and this one is no different! Both fighters are throwing fast hands and moving well. TOwards the end of the first round, Keri feints and then goes up top with a huge right hand! Valle drops! Melendez jumps on her and sinks in a beautiful rear-naked choke that secures the tap.

Keri Melendez def. Tiani Valle via first-round submission (rear-naked choke).

  1. I didn’t even know that Bellator had a SW division. Is this something new? Even Keri is listed as a FW on their website and Tiani is not even listed period. If they are serious about developing it, Emily should drop down.

    1. Hi JR! To my understanding, they do not have an officical strawweight division but have allowed Keri to fight at that weight for both of her MMA bouts. I am not quite sure what the plan is though— I hope that they choose to invest in this weight class going forward! Perhaps a women’s strawweight tournament to crown a champ?
