Julia Budd has the biggest opportunity of her career this Friday when she battles Marloes Coenen in the main event of Bellator 174 to determine the inaugural Bellator featherweight champion.
Budd is currently the number three ranked featherweight fighter in the world, behind her opponent Coenen and of course Cris Cyborg. She has a notable victory over UFC featherweight champion, Germaine de Randamie.
Budd (9-2-0) recently spoke to MMAJunkie about her upcoming fight. She says she is very confident right now and feels that she is constantly improving from each fight.
“It’s been kind of a journey,” Budd told MMAjunkie. “I feel like I’m finding my stride every time I get in there and fight. It’s just constantly learning. I feel like there’s so much improvement that I’ve done between every camp. It’s never that I’ve found my stride, but I’m confident in me being a complete mixed martial artist. That’s what I found in Invicta and continued into Bellator.”
She faces a very experienced veteran in Marloes Coenen, she admits it has been her goal to fight her ever since she signed with the organization.
“To be fighting her, when we first signed with Bellator, that was the goal,” Budd said. “I feel like I’m very familiar with her from watching her so much and preparing for her.”
Budd feels like Friday’s title fight gives fans a reason to be excited for the women’s MMA featherweight division.
“I feel like Bellator is still growing, but I think this title fight between me and Marloes is just going to bring more excitement and energy to the division,” Budd said. “We’ve been around in the division for longer. Hopefully, the other 145-pound fight is an exciting fight.”
