The atomweight rankings were recently updated following several weekends of exciting fights. Two standouts who are actively competing inside the cage right now are Alyssa Garcia and Kanna Asakura. Both women have officially made their way into the top ten. The pair fought back in December 2015, with Garcia emerging victorious via unanimous decision.
Garcia (3-2-0) is currently the number nine ranked atomweight competitor in the world. She is signed to Combate Americas, but also appears on Japan’s RIZIN FF. Her victory over Kanna Asakura back in December really showed the world what she is capable of when at her best. She followed up in February, taking out Kaiyana Rain. The victory was another significant one, as Rain has previously defeated heavily hyped Combate star, Kyra Batara. Garcia is currently the highest ranked atomweight signed to Combate Americas.
Asakura (6-2-0) is currently the number ten ranked atomweight competitor in the world. She is currently signed to DEEP JEWELS, but also appears on RIZIN FF. She holds a notable victory from back in September 2015, over a former top ranked veteran who no longer competes, Yasuko Tamada. She has finished three of her career victories via round one rear-naked choke’s. Garcia is the only woman she has lost to at atomweight.
The atomweight division is constantly evolving and several new stars with less fights are taking out the former high ranked veterans from the rankings. Alyssa Garcia and Kanna Asakura are two women to keep an eye on at atomweight.
