This Saturday Andy Nguyen will be looking to avenge another one of her early career losses by defending her atomweight title against Melissa Karagianis at King of the Cage: Counterstrike.
Nguyen (5-3) was last seen in action in May when she successfully avenged a loss against highly touted Jackson-Wink MMA prospect, Bi Nguyen. The 35-year-old feels as though she has made significant improvements to her game since moving to the Karate Mafia team, also home of top-ten flyweight contender Andrea Lee. The improvements haven’t gone unnoticed, with Nguyen currently riding high on a three-fight win streak. She won the the inaugural KOTC world title back in April 2016, knocking out Elane Santiago in the third round. She has since gone on to defend the belt twice and now looks to make her third defense.
For “The CrAsian”, this is “the year of redemption”. She is eager to continue showing the world the growth in her skillset and make her case for being the best fighter at 105-pounds on the planet.
“I know I don’t have the perfect record like Ronda Rousey once had or hold Mayweather’s record, but I know one thing, if I can avenge another loss then I’m fine with not being perfect.” Nguyen said.
“This camp was no different to my previous ones, over 30 hours a week like a full time job. Staying ready. Staying fit. Always promoting WMMA as much as I can. This is also a rematch. It’s Melissa Karaganakis, a very attractive fitness model with great muay thai skills. I absolutely love her coach. Danny is such a pleasant human being. Cant wait to celebrate with him afterwards. No matter what the results are, I always put on a great entertaining action packed fights. May the better fighter win.” Nguyen continued.
“King of the Cage: Counterstrike” takes place this Saturday August 12 from the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, New York, United States. The event is expected to be broadcast on MAVTV.
