Tonight at King of the Cage: Counterstrike, an eagerly anticipated 105-pound contest will go down when Andy Nguyen defends her atomweight title against Melissa Karagianis. The fight will be a rematch, with Melissa Karagianis picking up the split decision victory in the first 2015 showing.
The Champion, Andy Nguyen (5-3), will be looking to avenge another one of her early career losses, having already avenged a loss to Bi Nguyen back in May. The 35-year-old feels as though she has made significant improvements to her game since moving to Karate Mafia, also home of top-ten flyweight contender Andrea Lee. The improvements haven’t gone unnoticed, with Nguyen currently riding high on a three-fight win streak. “The CrAsian won the the inaugural KOTC world title back in April 2016, knocking out Elane Santiago in the third round. She has since gone on to defend the belt twice and now looks to make her third defense.
Karagianis (2-2) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to the larger strawweight competitor in Cynthia Arceo. She now moves back down to 105-pounds in a bid to become the atomweight champion of the world. The 29-year-old believes she is the rightful champion due to her 2015 win over Nguyen and she is looking to prove it tonight.
