Amanda Nunes: “I feel the UFC are punishing me for sure”

UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will attempt to make the second successful defense of her title on September 9 when she battles Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 215.

The pair were previously scheduled to meet in July’s UFC 213 main event, however Nunes was forced to withdraw from the fight just hours before the event went on air due to sinusitis.

The 29-year-old’s past two fights have been main events of big pay-per-views, she feels as though co-headlining the upcoming UFC 215 is a punishment from the UFC.

I feel they’re punishing me for sure,” Nunes said. “Whatever Dana White says he’s going to do, you know. It could’ve been the main event or the first of the card, I would still fight the same. I’m going to step in the cage, defend my belt – co-main event, I don’t have any problem with that. I’m going to keep my belt, walk away, go home, drink some beer, and enjoy time with my girlfriend, my friends, and my family.”

UFC 215 takes place on September 9 from the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event will be aired live on pay-per-view.
