Ayaka Hamasaki vs Alyssa Garcia set for Rizin FF 10 in May

On May 6 at Rizin FF 10, former Invicta FC atomweight champion Ayaka Hamasaki (14-2) will return to action to face Alyssa Garcia (3-4) in a 108-pound contest.

After going 3-0 as an amateur, Garcia turned pro in 2014.She’ll look to snap a two-fight skid against one of the top atomweights in Hamasaki. Garcia was last seen in action in October, dropping a decision to Maria de Oliveira Neta under the Rizin FF banner.

Hamasaki’s next move in MMA has been somewhat of a mystery. In March of 2017, she tried her hand at 115-pounds in the Invicta cage, losing to Livia Renata Souza via first round KO. Prior to that, Hamasaki reigned as the Invicta FC atomweight champion after capturing the belt from Herica Tiburcio in 2015– a belt that would later be vacated. The only two losses of Hamasak’s career comes from Livia Souza and top UFC contender Claudia Gadelha.

Are you excited to see Hamasaki back in action?

  1. While it’s great to see Hamasaki back in the cage again, it’s curious as to why the generally recognized #1 atomweight is taking on a relative unknown who has lost her last 2 fights. Perhaps she feels she needs a tune-up fight after her loss about a year ago at 115.

Hope her next fight is against Frey for the AW title. Maybe Frey could use a “recovery” fight as well in the meantime at Invicta 29 since the Rizin event is almost on the same day; hint, hint, Shannon.
